about me

I was born and grew up on the Isle of Wight, left to study agricultural economics and the Bible (Wye College and London Bible College) and spent four years in student ministry in the south east with UCCF. I then served in pastoral ministry in three churches in the south before joining Christianity magazine as an editor in the offices of Premier Radio.

But in my last pastoral role I had developed training courses looking at the Bible and so pursued opportunities for training lay people and was thrilled to join CWR writing and delivering courses at Waverley Abbey House in a variety of topics under CWR’s strapline ‘applying God’s truth to every day life and relationships’.

When at Premier in 2005 I started The Leadership Show, a weekly conversation with Christians in leadership in church, charity and commercial world, and this continued when working at CWR, and to the present day.

I have written or co-written 19 books (see below), mostly published by CWR. I left CWR in October 2020 and now spend half my week working with Premier Radio as an editor and presenter and the other half on freelance work with CWR (now Waverley Abbey Trust) and various local churches and charities as requested.

I am married to Nic, and am Dad to two wonderful adopted (now) young men who have been with us 14 years. I follow football and golf, run and cycle regularly and our family enjoy boxset series on Netflix and Amazon Prime.

If you want to pigeon hole me theologically: I am technically an independent baptist minister but have been part of an Anglican church for 22 years and have attended every New Wine Summer Festival since 2011. If people ask I say, ‘I try and follow the teachings of Jesus’ which hopefully makes me evangelical and charismatic, but I aim to respect the culture and values of whereever I minister and have worked with Christians in a variety of churches: C of E, Methodist, Baptist, FIEC, New Church streams, Vineyard churches, Pentecostal, and Salvation Army. I value a broad range of authors in the evangelical/charismatic worlds, especially Dallas Willard.

Book me to run a course or discuss a tailor-made one.

I do one to one coaching/mentoring typically connected to people who I meet on courses: 1st 45 minute session is free: thereafter it is £50 for 45 mins

You can book me as an outsider to run a morning or day for a leadership team or wider group on a discussion topic
