Discovering Our Spiritual Identity: Practices for God’s Beloved – Trevor Hudson (IVP)
It is hard to imagine working through this work book by this South African pastor, and remaining unchanged. The 16 chapters have the same outline: summary, two page reading on the theme with personal stories and apt illustrations, holy experiments (spiritual practices to engage in) discussion questions for individual or small group use and space to write your responses to questions. I especially enjoyed: ‘Drawing a picture of God’ and Becoming Holy, Becoming Ourselves’. Other themes include hearing and speaking with God; growing in spiritual friendship; practicing stewardship of our work and play; learning discernment; living now in the kingdom of God. Weighty themes but well condensed and valuable for new believers or seasoned saints. As publishers build their spiritual disciplines/formation catalogue, this one stands out as one of the finest.
